What turned the Austin bombing suspect into a serial killer?

Several blocks were evacuated while agents swept the house for bombs. No bombs were found but investigators did find explosive materials and bomb components.

AUSTIN -- Federal Agents spent hours Wednesday going through accused serial bomber Mark Conditt's house in Pflugerville.

Several blocks were evacuated while agents swept the house for bombs. No bombs were found but investigators did find explosive materials and bomb components.

Neighbor Mark Roessier, who lives right across the street, watched in disbelief.

"I watched the truck come down the street and shove the car out of the way." Roessier said FBI SWAT teams ordered two men out of the home.

"They started announcing we are the FBI. We are here to serve a search warrant."

The FBI took Conditt's two roommates into custody. One of the roommates was later released while the other was held for questioning.

"I am relieved it's over." said neighbor Debbie Lucas.

Roessier says Conditt and his dad bought the house together more than a year ago and refurbished it.

"His father was a real loving, caring father. His son Mark was quiet, polite, respectful, courteous, unassuming."

But what Conditt turned into was the opposite of what the neighbor described. Police believe the suspected bomber made all of the explosives but are not ruling out he might have had help.

Investigators hope to find evidence inside the home that may shed light on why he did this ultimately trying to answer the question: What turned him into a serial bomber?

On Wednesday his family issued this statement:

“We are devastated and broken at the news that our family could be involved in such an awful way. We had no idea of the darkness that Mark must have been in. Our family is a normal family in every way. We love, we pray, and we try to inspire and serve others. Right now our prayers are for those families that have lost loved ones, for those impacted in any way, and for the soul of our Mark. We are grieving and we are in shock. Please respect our privacy as we deal with this terrible, terrible knowledge and try to support each other through this time.”
