'I made an emphasis to look at Row 14': Southwest passenger makes it back to Dallas

Marty Martinez was the social media warrior who gave the world a snapshot of the tragedy on Flight #1380. He sat three rows behind where the exploding engine tore into a window, killing a passenger.

It's easy to see the relief on Marty Martinez' face as he made the long walk out of the gates of Dallas Love Field Airport.

It's been three days since he's touched Texas soil. The moment of his return was book-ended by a much-awaited hug from his brother.

"I feel very lucky to be back in Dallas," he said.

Martinez was the social media warrior who gave the world a snapshot of the tragedy on Flight 1380. He sat three rows behind where the exploding engine tore into a window, killing a passenger.

It was his social media savvy through posts, pictures, and videos that helped the world grasp the gravity of what was happening.

"In reality I was just trying to reach out to the people I loved most," he said.

He says it was hard to get back on a plane again Friday. He said there was anxiety. He said even the smell of the cabin as he got on the plane took him back to that day. He had his exact same seat number.

"I made an emphasis to look at Row 14 where Jennifer had sat," he said.

Martinez was referring to Jennifer Riordan, the mother of two who died on Tuesday's flight.

Martinez says he was refunded $8 for the WiFi he used. He also got emails from Southwest Airlines' CEO telling him he'll get a $5,000 check and a $1,000 travel voucher.

"I kinda felt a little offended. I don't think that comes close to repaying what we've gone through," he said.

On 2-3 hours of sleep, Martinez vows to push on. He says nothing will be the same again; Flight 1380 gave him perspective.

"I'll be on a quest to figure out why my life was spared," he said.

Martinez says as the CEO of a marketing firm, he has to take many trips by plane. His next flight is scheduled for Thursday of next week.
