Second formerly conjoined twin heads home

A formerly conjoined twin has been discharged from Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, almost two months after her sister went home to North Texas.

HOUSTON -- A formerly conjoined twin has been discharged from Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, almost two months after her sister went home.

Hope Elizabeth Richards was released after spending 482 days in the hospital. She and her sister, Anna Grace, underwent a seven-hour surgery to separate them back in January. Anna Grace was discharged on March 2.

The Richards, who are from North Texas, say they're grateful for the support and prayers they've received over the past few months.

“This is the moment it all feels real,” Jill Richards said. “We are so excited for Hope to join Anna and her brothers at home. Our family is eternally thankful for the doctors, nurses, child life specialists, physical therapists and many others at Texas Children’s who took incredible care of our precious girls.”

Hope and Anna were born on Dec. 29, 2016 at Texas Children's pavilion for Women. They were conjoined at their chest and abdomen, through their torso, and shared a chest wall, heart lining, liver, and diaphragm. They also had a large blood vessel connecting their hearts.

Close to 75 doctors were involved in their surgery.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family. Go here to donate.
