Vintage store sells only Star Wars toys

"We're actually the first vintage toy store, period, in Fort Worth."

FORT WORTH -- A universe of toys from a galaxy far, far away has found a home in a Fort Worth store.

Holocron is a toy store that sells Star Wars and Star Wars only.

"We're actually the first vintage toy store, period, in Fort Worth," employee Emily Bevill said.

It's one of the only stores in the country that specializes in a niche market, and if you don't think it's enough to sustain a business, they stress that the market for Star Wars toys generates tens of billions of dollars every year.

At Holocron, they have 25,000 different items in stock, with everything from brand new merchandise for the new Han Solo movie, to toys that date back to the release of the original Star Wars in the late 1970s.

While many items in the store are less than $10, there are also high-value collectibles. One action figure, a rare vinyl-caped Jawa, is on sale for $20,000. It retailed for about $2 back in 1978.

"We do trade in for car keys," joked Bevill.

The idea for the store was hatched by Bevill's uncle and an investor who recognized an opportunity in Fort Worth. Geeks here have not had an outlet or place to gather, and Holocron gives them a home. The name is a Star Wars reference only true fans would get, but there are plenty of them.

"I saw Holocron [on the sign], and I was like, 'wait a minute, Jedi Holocron?'" Bart Escobedo said. "I pulled in, and I was like, this isn't happening."

Escobedo happened upon the store this afternoon, and he brought in his daughter Makayla, age 6. He's shared Star Wars with her, and he said he recognized many of the items in the store from his own youth.

He was 5 when he saw the original movie in theaters.

"It takes you back to some really good memories of being her age," Escobedo said.
