DPD investigating two group attacks in Deep Ellum

Dallas Police are investigating two separate attacks by large groups of people against a single victim in Deep Ellum over the last two days.

Dallas Police are investigating two separate attacks by large groups of people against a single victim in Deep Ellum over the last two days.

In one case, a woman is seen on surveillance being punched and kicked in the face repeatedly in the 2900 block of Elm early Saturday.

The video, obtained by WFAA, shows the attack starting on a sidewalk near the intersection with Malcolm X Boulevard at 3:20 a.m.

Another attack took place in just a few blocks to the west at 2600 Elm near N. Good Latimer Expressway on Friday morning just before 3 a.m.

In that attack Jeremy Logan, a Deep Ellum bartender, was walking two patrons to their car when a group of people assaulted him without warning.

"It just came out of nowhere," Logan said. "I'm guessing they just hid behind the cars and came out."

Logan was beaten unconscious and his wallet was stolen in the attack.

DPD isn't saying much about either attack, telling WFAA detectives are aware of both incidents and are conducting investigations.

The attacks are already prompting some change for business owners.

Saad Sheikh owns Big Guys Chicken and Rice on Elm and says he already has sufficient camera coverage on the inside of his business. Now his focus is on the outside.

"As a business owner over here I’m definitely going to be adding some more surveillance," Sheikh said.
