All lanes reopened at US 75, I-635 after overturned tanker caused gridlock

All Central Expressway and I-635 lanes have reopened after a tanker crash spurred massive traffic in Dallas throughout the morning and afternoon Thursday.

All Central Expressway and I-635 lanes have reopened after a tanker crash spurred massive traffic in Dallas throughout the morning and afternoon Thursday.

However, the US 75 southbound ramp to I-635 remains closed as crews continue work to clear the scene.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was first called to the scene at the High Five at about 4:20 a.m., according to Jason Evans, a spokesman with the fire department. Evans said the truck was carrying "a resin commonly used in the production of plastics."

The tanker was traveling southbound on the Central Expressway ramp to I-635 when the driver lost control and it tipped over onto a retaining wall.

"Unfortunately, the tank was in a position that could compromise its integrity if moved, so TxDOT had a company come out to off-load the resin prior to any efforts being made to upright and tow the truck away," the Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman said.

No one was reported injured in the crash "but a small amount of resin did leak onto the ground below," Evans said. The resin is flammable, which led to the closures as Hazmat cleaned the scene.

The crash and ensuing cleanup led to massive backup on Central Expressway and I-635, as well as nearby side streets. Many drivers were stranded in standstill traffic for hours, with some drivers leaving their vehicles and walking to nearby restaurants for food.
