The scooter trend is moving north.

Lime is pushing out its new electric scooter to Plano Monday after the City Council passed an ordinance to allow scooters.

The move comes after the company racked up 1 million rides on its zippy devices, including bicycles, in Dallas, the company said in an announcement.

The “Lime S” will be available at Haggard Park in Plano on East 15th Street at a launch event.

“We worked with the City of Plano to launch our bikes, and we’re pleased to add our scooters, now that the city council has added this mobility solution to its new ordinance,” Sam Sadle, Lime director of government relations and strategic development, said in a statement.

The addition comes as Dallas residents embrace the once humble transportation gadget.

Folks in the city took more than 450,000 trips on them between July and nearly the end of September, according to data supplied by the two main providers, Bird and Lime, to the City of Dallas. That added up to almost 600,000 miles, according to the documents posted for an Oct. 8 meeting of the Mobility Solutions, Infrastructure and Sustainability Committee.

In addition, last month Razor USA – the name behind the unpowered versions popular with kids – joined local sidewalks, according to the city.

There have been concerns around safety, and Lime reportedly pulled some of the scooters because of safety challenges. Lime said Monday it continues to develop features that promote safe riding and encourage riders to use safe and responsible riding behavior.

The company said it collects scooters on daily, charging and redistributing them in approved areas so that they are on the sidewalks fully charged, maintained, and ready to be ridden every day.
