Kyler Murray wins 2018 Heisman Trophy

The Allen High School graduate is the fourth player from DFW to win the trophy.

Following in the footsteps of other local athletes like Tim Brown (1987), Doak Walker (1948) and Davey O’Brien (1938), University of Oklahoma quarterback and Allen High School alumnus Kyler Murray won the 2018 Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York City.

Murray is the second Oklahoma quarterback in a row to win the trophy, narrowly edging out the University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins was the third finalist for the award, given to the most outstanding player in college football.

Murray helped lead OU to a Big 12 championship against Texas last week. He had 4,053 passing yards, 892 rushing yards and threw 51 touchdowns last season.

As an Allen Eagle, Murray won three straight state championships, and 43 games in a row, starting in 42 of those 43. His final record as a starting quarterback for the Eagles was 42-0.
