Wednesday's Child: 12-year-old Lashonda

Lashonda put in hard work during her years in foster care and feels ready to find a family to match her energy.

DALLAS — Whatever nerves 12-year-old Lashonda walked into The Cookery Dallas with were long gone when she got to work on a chocolate souffle.

She loves to bake. Her favorites?

"Cookies, cupcakes and pies," she said.

From preparing the ingredients to the cleanup, Lashonda says it's worth it for the payoff of eating dessert! Being in the kitchen is the kind of thing that makes her light up. She's also a runner and a gymnast, who likes to play with her Barbies. Her body language shows those are the fun things to talk about. Her search for a family is more personal.

"Yeah, I'm working toward a forever home," she told us.

Lashonda put in hard work during her years in foster care, and feels ready to find a family to match her energy. "I want a family with lots of pets and that would allow me to do sports and gymnastics," she said.

Parents to make room in their hearts for her would be the only thing sweeter than her souffle.
