Dallas city councilman under investigation over scooter accident

According to police records and several police sources, Felder was driving a Ford Fusion and was involved in an accident with a scooter.

DALLAS — Dallas police officials are investigating a scooter accident involving Dallas city councilman Kevin Felder, police sources say.

Dallas police detectives were on the scene of the accident in South Dallas in the 2500 block of Malcolm X Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police records and several police sources, Felder was driving a Ford Fusion and was involved in an accident with a scooter.

An eyewitness told police that Felder had “words with the driver” and left the scene of the accident, according to the records and police sources.

During a council meeting Wednesday afternoon in far southwestern Dallas, a Ford Fusion registered to Felder's address was inspected and towed.

WFAA reached out to Felder and he said, “I don’t have any comment.”

He hung up when asked if he had fled the scene of an accident.

Felder represents District 7, which includes South Dallas and Fair Park.

Sources told WFAA late Wednesday evening that Felder's city and personal cell phones have been confiscated. Those sources also said Felder's car is in autopound, and marks on his car are being examined along with the marks on the scooter involved in the accident.

“We will conduct the investigation as we normally do, we won’t take any shortcuts and we will do everything that we need to do," police said late Wednesday night. "And if it turns out that we need to effect an arrest we are willing to do so.”

Dallas Police sent out the following statement Wednesday night:

"Around 11:30 this morning, a citizen called 911 alleging an incident involving Council Member Felder in the 2500 block of Malcolm X boulevard [Sic].

The Dallas Police Department is still in the early stages of the investigation and will provide updates as they become available.
