1 dead after Friday night shooting in McKinney

Police asking for public's help in catching the shooter

MCKINNEY, Texas — A man is dead after a Friday night shooting in McKinney, and McKinney police are asking for the public's help in finding the shooter.

The shooting happened a little after 7 p.m. Friday night, when police responded to several 911 calls about a shooting outside a home in the 800 block of Maples Avenue in McKinney. 

When officers arrived, they discovered that an altercation led to shots being fired into a crowd of nearly 30 people who were gathered in the front of the house, according to a statement from McKinney police.

During the shooting, 55-year-old James Penegar was hit by a bullet and died a short time later at Medical City McKinney.
