Police: Man held broken glass to child's neck in Oak Cliff

The suspect surrendered to officials about two hours later.

DALLAS — A man is in custody after surrendering to officials during a tense standoff when he held a little girl hostage in a house in Oak Cliff early Tuesday morning.

Police were called out to a house in the 1500 block of Southerland Avenue on a report of a stabbing, at about 1:30 a.m. It started at a 7-Eleven a block away when the suspect got into an argument with his brother-in-law and ended up cutting him with a machete.

Witnesses told police where the man lives, so a lieutenant knocked on the door. A woman runs out of the house before the suspect kicks the door shut and locks it. At one point, police said he came to a window with a little girl and held a piece of glass to her neck. SWAT was called to the scene.

The suspect surrendered to officials about two hours later.

The girl is expected to be ok. The girl's relation to the suspect is unknown at this time. The brother-in-law is in the hospital. His condition is unknown, but is expected to be ok.
