Sexual assault suspect didn't force his way into apartment, police say

Farmers Branch police said the suspect knew the victim, but that a sexual assault likely occurred.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — EDITOR'S NOTE: Farmers Branch police provided an update Thursday afternoon on a report of an April 24 sexual assault. 

After an initial investigation of a sexual assault in Farmers Branch, police said the suspect knew the victim and did not force his way into the apartment or used a weapon.

Police confirmed that a "sexual assault did likely occur" Wednesday afternoon at an apartment in the 14200 block of Heritage Circle.

In an update Thursday, Farmers Branch police said the details of the investigation has changed:

"Investigation has revealed that, while a sexual assault did likely occur, it did not happen as initially reported by the victim. The suspect is known by the victim and did not force his way into the apartment nor did he use or display any weapon.

Apologies for any alarm the alert caused, we were operating with the facts as presented at the time and chose to err on the side of caution in keeping the public informed of a potential predator."
