Texas Rangers will play St. Louis Cardinals in first game at new ballpark

The Rangers and Cardinals will play a spring training exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. March 23 at Globe Life Field, officials said Friday.

ARLINGTON, Texas —

The Texas Rangers will play the first major league game at the new ballpark against the St. Louis Cardinals, team officials said Friday.

The team moves across the street next year to its new billion-dollar, retractable-roof stadium.

The Rangers and Cardinals will play a spring training exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. March 23 at Globe Life Field.

The 1.7 million square-foot park will seat about 40,300, said spokesman John Blake.

The Cardinals are in Arlington this weekend for the team's first regular season visit since June 13, 2004, Blake said.

The teams played three games in Arlington during the 2011 World Series.

The regular season and spring training schedules will be announced by Major League Baseball late this year.
