DFW Airport announces plans to add sixth terminal, expected to open in 2025

Terminal F will include 24 new gates with an expected opening sometime in 2025.

A sixth terminal is coming to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The airport made its big announcement on Monday. Terminal F will include 24 new gates with an expected opening sometime in 2025.

The airport said it will also invest at least $3 billion in terminal improvements, including the construction of the new terminal and enhancements to Terminal C.

DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue spoke in a news conference, joined by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, and William Meadows and Matrice Ellis-Kirk who both serve on the DFW Airport Board of Directors.

A record 69 million passengers made their way through DFW Airport last year.

DFW Airport has 250 nonstop destinations, officials announced Monday.

“We’re up to nearly 900 flights a day now,” American Airlines chairman and CEO Doug Parker said. “This will allow us to expand and meet demand.”

DFW plans to invest up to $3 to $3.5 billion in terminal improvements, including the construction of Terminal F and enhancements to Terminal C.

“We get more complaints about (Terminal) C than anything so this is a real win for the traveling public: To renovate (Terminal) C and then have a beautiful new terminal, too,” Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said.

Terminal F will be built on what is now an outdoor parking lot, just south of Terminal D. We asked airport officials if there will be any issues with parking, once the lot is replaced with Terminal F.

“No, we have plenty of parking,” DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue said.

Terminal F will be able to hold up to 24 domestic and international gates. Officials say it should open in 2025.

“We have to finalize the business agreement with American (Airlines). We hope to get that done in the next several months. And then you have planning. You have design (work) so it will be at least two years before construction starts.”

American Airlines is headquartered in Fort Worth. DFW is the airlines’ largest hub.

“This is the best metrohub in north America,” Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said.
