Heat, humidity, storm chances return Father's Day weekend

Our nice June weather will come to an end as we head into the weekend — typical June heat and humidity will return.

Can June be like this all the time in North Texas?

We wish!

After cool mornings and pleasant afternoons, more summer-like conditions are creeping back into the forecast.

The heat and humidity will be on the rise today with a return of very warm and humid weather Saturday and Sunday.

Back to reality (sigh).

Storm chances return this weekend as well, but it will not be a washout. Scattered storms are even possible for Father's Day, unfortunately.

Let's break down the weekend forecast:

SATURDAY: There will be plenty of heat and humidity to go around Saturday, with highs in the 90s. The heat index will approach 100°. Most of the day will be rain-free, but we could see some activity well west of Dallas-Fort Worth along an approaching dryline. If storms do form, we could see some activity to the north and northwest of the D-FW area as we near sunset, with storms falling apart as they make the trip into D-FW overnight. We do not expect severe weather in D-FW on Saturday night or overnight. However, a few severe storms are possible mainly west and northwest. (see the Severe Weather Outlook below).

SUNDAY (FATHER'S DAY): Father's Day will feature heat, humidity, and (unfortunately) scattered showers and storms. High temperatures will once again be in the 90s with the heat index nearing 100° (unless you get relief from a shower or storm). Some storms could turn strong to severe with ample instability in place. Gusty winds, lightning, heavy rain — and even some hail — possible in storms that do develop on Sunday. Again, not everyone will see rain Sunday, but we would advise everyone to prepare for the possibility of delaying outdoor activities or moving them inside.
