GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Story updated throughout with details of the crash.
Grand Prairie Police responded to a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle near Belt Line and Kingston late Thursday.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, and both people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital. Neither person in the car suffered life threatening injuries. Police said the 42-year-old passenger is in serious condition and the 31-year-old driver is stable.
The crash occurred after an officer attempted to pull over the motorcycle. The officer saw the driver run a red light in the 400 block of S Belt Line Road. The motorcycle was also missing a license plate and headlights.
According to officials, the motorcycle drove away from the offier at a high rate of speed and collided with the passenger side of a Buick that was trying to turn left onto Kingston from Belt Line.
The Buick overturned in the wreck, while the motorcycle caught fire upon impact. Police said the rider was killed instantly.
A responding officer and nearby employee were able to put out the fire.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Officer will release the motorcyclist's identity once next of kin has been notified.
The is the ninth traffic fatality in Grand Prairie, according to police.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
