14-year-old one of two teens killed in triple shooting in Fort Worth

Adrian Daniels was identified as one of the two victims killed in west Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Standing outside of her daughter’s home in west Fort Worth, Shannon Johnson held images of her grandson, 14-year-old Adrian Daniels.

As she talked about his trophies and accomplishments, she wept.

“He was an athlete, he was intelligent, he was on the honor roll,” Johnson said. “He was a good boy.”

Her grandson was killed in a triple shooting in the 700 block of Panay Way Drive in west Fort Worth on Wednesday night.

Fort Worth police said two victims died and one was injured. Daniels died at the scene, a 17-year-old later died at the hospital and another 17-year-old was treated for injuries at the hospital, police said.

Police are still looking for a suspect and have not identified the two other victims.

Daniels was a freshman at Brewer High School and the oldest of four siblings. Johnson said her grandson was visiting the home on Panay Way Drive for a ride before a suspect(s) came by and started shooting.

“This could happen to anybody, and it’s sad,” Johnson said. “I don’t want everyone to remember Adrian Daniels and think, another young Black man got shot, must be gangs and drugs… it wasn’t that.”

Police haven’t released any information about a motive. Several neighbors told WFAA there have been several shootings at the home on Panay Way Drive before Wednesday's shooting, although Fort Worth police said they're not aware any other calls at the address.

One neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said he no longer feels safe living in the neighborhood and is considering moving to keep his children safe.

So far this year, Fort Worth has had five homicides.

“My prayer is that he doesn’t go down as some statistic,” Johnson said. “Everybody knows he was a noble, smart, loving, kind, athletic child that got caught up in what is today’s world of bullets and not thinking and knowing that after them, there’s no tomorrow.”

Daniels will be laid to rest in his family’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas. Johnson launched an online fundraising campaign for funeral costs.

She told WFAA that Daniels sent her a New Year's Eve text and messaged her again on Wednesday, hours before he was killed, saying “Love grandma.”

“Telling me that he loved me out of the blue for no reason, because that’s who he is… was,” Johnson said, as she fought back tears. “He’s going to be missed.”
