4-year-old Houston boy dead after being found unconscious in vehicle

Police said the boy and another child, a two-year-old, were playing outside when they somehow climbed into the unlocked car.

HOUSTON — A 4-year-old boy died Friday after being found unconscious in a turned-off car, according to the Houston Police Department.

This happened on Oriole Street in the Independence Heights community. Police first tweeted about the incident at 6:36 p.m.

Police said the boy and another child, a 2-year-old, were playing outside when they somehow climbed into the unlocked car.

At some point, their family realized they were missing and started to look for them before finding them in the car. It's unclear how long they were there. Authorities told KHOU 11 that the car was locked when the children were found.

The family took the 4-year-old to a hospital themselves and the 2-year-old, who was responsive, was later taken to a hospital by the Houston Fire Department as a precautionary measure.
