FORT WORTH, Texas — Former Miami standout Haley Cavinder announced Monday she’ll play her final season at TCU, about a month after unretiring from basketball.
Cavinder and her twin sister Hanna, known as the “Cavinder Twins”, gained popularity through creating TikTok videos. They are known as the top faces of the NIL movement after securing several major brand deals including Maybelline, Adidas x Messi, Champs, Betr and Bucked Up Energy in which they created their own drink.
The two were recently brand ambassadors for the World Series, have a contract with the WWE, and have made several appearances at professional sports games.
The twins, who grew up in Arizona, played together at Fresno State for three seasons before transferring to play for the University of Miami.
In April, they both decided to forego their fifth year of playing to continue to build their brand together as successful entrepreneurs.
But Haley had second thoughts. In October, Haley announced she decided to lace up her shoes for one more year and entered the transfer portal.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Haley said she felt like she made the decision more for her sister than for herself.
“I think ending it with Hanna and announcing that we were done and not going to take our fifth year, I felt—honestly, to be very transparent—a lot of pressure,” Haley said in an interview with Forbes.
The two had always done everything together and even though she wasn’t sure what playing again would look like without her sister, Haley was ready.
Now, she’s found a home at TCU! She made the announcement on her social media pages with the caption "the last rodeo #committed". She's pictured in a TCU jersey and shorts, sitting in a royal chair donning a crown and a blinged out basketball in her hands.
Her sister Hanna, who is happy to cheer on Haley from the sidelines, commented, "GO FROGSSS BABY." She also made another comment saying, "mom just bought purple cowboy boots after seeing this."
At Miami, Haley earned second-team All-ACC honors as helped lead the team to its first Elite Eight appearance. She averaged 12.2 poins and 4.9 rebounds per game. It looks like she's ready to make a splash with the Horned Frogs this season.
TCU has put the Big 12 Conference on notice this week, posting "saddle up," with a picture of Cavinder.
Cavinder isn't the only big name TCU has added to its roster this season. Oregon standout Sedona Prince joined the team in the offseason for her final year after opting out of the WNBA draft. Prince is too widely known to TikTok and went viral after posting about the conditions of the NCAA women's tournament compared to the men's tournament in 2021.
Prince took to her TikTok to post a video the day of Cavidner's announcement, saying "pov: you get to be apart of the newest dynasty in college basektball."
