Man arrested after being shot by owner of Frisco home he was attempting to rob, police say

Police say 18-year-old Clinton Montgomery was shot by a homeowner after he broke a window in the backyard of the residence.

FRISCO, Texas — An 18-year-old man from North Richland Hills was arrested and charged with burglary after a homeowner shot him while he was reportedly trying to break into their residence, Frisco Police said.

Police say officers were called at 8:06 p.m. Sunday about suspicious activity in the 1400 block of Belfort Drive after a resident told 911 that an unknown person had entered their backyard, pulled a ladder off of the house and broken a window with it.

Officers reported hearing gunshots as they approached the location. Upon securing the scene, police say they found 18-year-old Clinton Montgomery inside the house with a gunshot wound.

“It was just multiple cop cars coming in and out of our neighborhood left and right,” said Frisco resident Titus Robinson.

Police said their investigation further revealed Montgomery was attempting to enter the residence when the homeowner shot him.

“It’s a super quiet neighborhood,” said Cameron Rogers, a Frisco resident about the neighborhood where the incident took place.

“About 8 p.m. on a Sunday evening after Thanksgiving holiday just winding down, getting ready for the week ahead, I heard kind of two loud popping noises," said Rogers. "So, I took my headphones off, heard some sirens and some yelling.”

According to police, Montgomery was then taken to a hospital for treatment by Frisco Fire Department personnel, where he remains in custody, charged with burglary of a habitation -- a second-degree felony carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

The arrest report details that the homeowner had Montgomery laying face down on the patio at gunpoint, but Mongtomgery reportedly jumped off the ground abruptly, leading the homeowner to shoot him in the back.

Although shot in the back, the report states Montgomery still entered the residence, where he was met by officers at the front door, who asked him to crawl his way out to the front yard.

In addition to the broken window, the report also state the living room floor was damaged and a fish tank in the living room had shattered, causing the room to fill with about an inch of water.

The report added that Montgomery had several words written on his forearms in red and black marker, including the word "Lucifer."

While receiving medical treatment, the report states Montgomery told medical staff something along the lines of "the spirits made me do it."

“That’s why you just don’t mess with Texas,” said Robinson.

This is the latest incident of violence police have responded to over the past month. They are still looking for the person who shot two people at random outside a Walmart two weeks ago.

“It makes me feel a little unsafe, but at the same time, you’ve just got to keep your wits about you,” said Robinson.
