GARLAND, Texas — A 65-year-old Texas man killed his wife before turning a gun on himself in a North Texas home on Wednesday morning, according to police.

The Garland Police Department said the man, identified as Luat Nguyen, called police and told them he had just killed his wife and he was going to kill himself.

Officers responded to the home in the 1800 block of Vine Drive at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When officers made entry into the home, they found Nguyen dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Officers also found a woman, identified as 66-year-old Kim Phi Nguyen, with multiple apparent gunshot wounds in a separate room, police said.

Garland police said detectives determined from their investigation of evidence at the scene that Luat Nguyen shot and killed his wife, Kim Phi Nguyen, and then turned the gun on himself.

Detectives will wait on an official cause of death from the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office, the department said in a release.
