HALTOM CITY, Texas — A man has been arrested and charged with murder after confessing to killing a man he allegedly knew, the Haltom City Police Department said.

Haltom City police officers responded to The Oaks at Jane Lane Apartments at approximately 7:17 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a call about a reported shooting, police said. Upon arriving at the scene and entering the reported apartment, police said they found an adult male who had died of an apparent gunshot wound.

After completing their initial investigation and processing of the crime scene, HCDP detectives said they received a confession from the alleged shooter in the case.

Police then arrested and charged the man they said confessed to the crime with murder.

According to HCPD, the victim and suspect knew one another. As such, police said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and that there is no ongoing threat to others in the area.

Police said they are withholding the name of the suspect until his arraignment, and will not be releasing the name of the victim until his next of kin has been successfully notified of his death.

Police added that their investigation into the murder remains ongoing, and that "additional arrests and/or charges may be forthcoming."
