'They’re going to need a lot of luck': TCU fans offer advice to Texas Longhorns ahead of Sugar Bowl

TCU is the only team from Texas to win a college football playoff game

ARLINGTON, Texas — It’s been 15 years since Texas has competed for a national championship in football, so the Longhorns may not remember what it takes to win at this stage, so we went to the one place where someone knows what it’s like to win a playoff game: TCU.

The Horned Frogs are the only team from Texas to win a playoff game.

So what advice do frog fans have for the Horns?

“They could wear purple,” said TCU alum Tracy Morse.

“They’re going to need a lot of luck, let’s just say that,” Frog fan John Dennis said.

“I feel like maybe they need to leave Austin and come to Fort Worth to really see how football works,” Josh Rogers added.

Obviously, there’s not a lot of Longhorn love in Cowtown.

“I like the spikey horns,” said 6-year-old Liam Swink. “I mean the Horned Frogs. I don’t know how to say it right!”

The last team to capture a football national championship from Texas was Texas, but that was the 2005-2006 season and this is a state that prides itself on football.

So bringing the title back to Texas, is that enough reason to cheer for UT?

“I am rooting for the Longhorns,” Cameron Swink said. “It is very difficult to do.”

“This is the last time I’ll be rooting for Texas,” said Morse.

For some TCU fans, there was never a first time.

“Washington’s going to walk all over them,” Dennis said. “And they’re purple like TCU.”

“They’re purple,” Cameron Swink asked. “I might actually be cheering for Washington as well, but we’ll see.”

“I like colors purple and orange,” Liam Swink said. “I like all the colors.”

So is Texas back? Not even TCU fans can find common ground, but leave it to six-year-old Liam to discover the one thing they can agree on.

“Go Horned Frogs!”
