The mother of a 14 year old allegedly shot and killed by a neighbor in December says there is more to the story

Latoiya Landers says she turned over new information to the detective investigating her son's shooting death.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth mother Latoiya Landers says she watches her son's Instagram video he made for her almost every day to stay strong.

Her 14-year-old son Devin Baker was shot and killed before Christmas, according to police. In the video, Devin uses humor to express his love for his mother.

"Look, as much as my mom gets on my nerves, bro, I love her, Mom! Mom! I love you!" Devin says in the video.

"My son was so hilarious," said Latoiya Landers, "He will make somebody laugh every day. That's what we miss here the most."

Latoiya says she still has a lot of unanswered questions about her son's shooting death at Peppertree Acre's Apartments.

Fort Worth Police say their neighbor, A'Leah Wallace, shot and killed Devin outside her home when she feared someone was trying to break in. The shooting allegedly happened at 3 a.m. December 14, as Latoiya and the rest of the family were asleep.

After being criticized on social media about her young son being away from home in the middle of the night, Latoiya explained to WFAA how her son was able to leave out of their apartment without her knowing.

"We -- me and my fiancé -- we have our own room in the back of the apartment," said Latoiya. "My little ones sleep in the back. My teenagers sleep in the living room. So, he had free access to leave out the door without us knowing it."

According to Police, A'Leah Wallace says she fired to protect her family from an unknown person outside her daughter's bedroom window. Still, Police tell us Devin's death is still an open investigation.

LaToiya says she has turned over new information to police that shows Devin knew A'Leah Wallace and her children.

"My son knew A'leah and when my son would get out of school, A'leah's kids would run to Devin to embrace him on his way from school," says Latoiya.

Devin's mother hopes further investigation will provide her with more answers about the shooting. She doesn't believe he went to her apartment to break in, especially since police reportedly found him in house slippers.

"I taught my son right from wrong. I would tell him right from wrong and the consequences that can occur from his choices. But I never thought would the choices that he has made in the past, none of them scream from what they're saying, assuming, that my son tried to rob this lady house," said Latoiya. "I don't even know what really happened. That's a lot for me to deal with mentally."

Fort Worth Police say the incident is an ongoing investigation.

Lead detective Jeremy Balders is not releasing any information on the case at this time because he says doing so would be detrimental to the investigation.

Anyone with any information on the case can call crime stoppers anonymously at 817-469-TIPS.

Sources tell WFAA the case will likely go to a grand jury to determine whether or not the shooting was justified.
