4-year-old girl saves her family from a house fire in Cedar Hill

“I was looking out the window and it was…It was orange at the backyard," said four-year-old Clover Macon.

CEDAR HILL, Texas — Like any other preschool kid, Clover Macon can be shy, but her actions are bold.

“She is living up to her name,” said Carnisha Macon, Clover’s mother.

The four-year-old is lucky.

“I’m super blessed. I don’t know what could have happened, but I know what did happen,” said Carnisha.

Early Sunday morning, after their fireplace burned out and everyone went to sleep, Clover says she noticed something strange.

“I smelled the smoke,” said Clover.

She immediately woke up her mom.

“I ignored her because I was like, maybe it’s just the burning smell from the wood, we lit. But then, she woke me up again like 10 minutes later, and the smell had gotten stronger,” said Carnisha.

Sure enough, there was a fire coming from the chimney. Clover and Carnisha say they were lying in the room next door.

“I was looking out the window and it was…It was orange at the backyard," said Clover.

As big girls do, Clover made big moves.

“I was about to be sad that the house was going to break in by the fire,” said Clover.

“She woke the rest of her brothers up, and then we got out,” said Carnisha.

All five family members, Clover, her parents, and two brothers were safe.

“Within five minutes of being on the phone with 911, that’s when we saw all the black smoke just hover over the home,” said Carnisha. “When she’d seen the fire trucks, she said, ‘I know them, mommy. I’ve seen them before at school.’ So, she…It stuck. It stuck.”

WFAA asked Clover to describe why she’s a hero. Clover simply said, “Because I saved everybody.”

As all heroes should, Clover patted herself on the back.

“I said thank you to myself,” said Clover.

Since the fire, the Macon family has been staying with relatives. Friends started a GoFundMe to help the family with relocating and other needs. If you would like to support, click this link.
