Driver shoots 2, killing 1, after vehicles collide in Dallas, police say

Dallas police said the victims attempted to follow the suspect’s vehicle but stopped in the 8500 block of South Central Expressway.

DALLAS — A man has died and another man was injured in a shooting after two vehicles collided in southern Dallas, police said Saturday.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said an unidentified driver and his passenger, 42-year-old Roberto Martinez-Gonzalez, were traveling eastbound in the 2800 block of East Ledbetter Drive when the driver attempted to grab his cell phone, drifted, and hit the a truck. 

The suspect driving the truck then pulled up next to them and shot both victims, police said. The victims attempted to follow the suspect’s vehicle but stopped in the 8500 block of South Central Expressway, according to DPD.

On Feb. 12, Dallas police arrested 29-year-old Kelvin Odom. He is charged with murder and aggravated assault. The motive is unknown at this time.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue, and Martinez-Gonzalez died from his injuries, DPD said. The unidentified driver was in stable condition.
