SAN ANTONIO — A day meant for celebrating is a day of heartache. February 20, 2024, marks the 6th birthday of Lina Sardar Khil.
To this day, there is still no sign of the girl who has been missing for more than two years.
KENS 5 spoke with two people, Pamela Allen and Abel Pena, who are helping the family look for Lina.
"Today is supposed to be that day of joy, and it is not," Allen said. "They are supposed to be celebrating. They are supposed to as a family have a little party, and do all these fun things with her."
"It is frustrating," Abel said. "We are doing everything we can to help the family."
Allen has been by the family's side since Lina disappeared from her apartment in December 2021. The last big development was last week. SAPD said they got a tip. They, along with the FBI, were searching in a wooded area very close to where Lina vanished. Allen said the tip came from an inmate at the Bexar County Jail. She had to tell Lina's father the news.
"An inmate told them this and they are looking for Lina's body," she said. "And it was extremely difficult to see his face."
After using lots of equipment, SAPD said nothing was found and the tip was not credible.
KENS 5 asked SAPD when they received the tip and if it came from an inmate, SAPD released the following.
"Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in Lina Khil's disappearance. We understand the importance and the impact it's had in the community but at this time we are not taking any follow up questions on this case. Our detectives have followed up on all leads they have received and will continue to do so."
Pena who is a retired FBI agent, also runs the non-profit 'Project Absentis.' It is an organization that helps find the missing. He has been helping Lina's family and is not giving up.
"It is good ole' fashion knocking on doors and talking to to people that's what we have been doing that last couple of years," he said. "I am hopeful that she is alive as well. We continue to explore that, we are hopeful that one day we will find her."
