BEAUMONT, Texas — Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office bid a fond, but sad, farewell to a 10-year-old dog that had served with them for more than five and a half years.

"K-9 Mygo" served alongside Jefferson County deputy Brigette Morse since June 2018 and on Monday she and her fellow deputies said goodbye to him according to a Facebook post by the sheriff's office.

Last week, the 10-year-old Belgian Malinois suddenly became ill and was then diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

"Cancer truly does suck," read the Facebook post.

"Mygo," who was described as "a force to be reckoned with on the highways and byways" of the county, got to take a final walk on Monday with Deputy Morse and friends and family, according to the post.

Then, with his partner, Deputy Morse, by his side hugging him tightly, he was put down.

"Mygo left this world far too soon but he leaves behind a legacy with his work ethic and wonderful memories that his work family and his home family will treasure furever," the post read.

While working with Deptuy Morse the dog became known not only for his drug seizures and tracking skills but for visiting schools all over the county to help teach safety to students according to the post.

Over "Mygo's" career he was deployed 286 times.

Of those deployments 184 were vehicle searches, 46 were at a residence, 17 were tracking calls, 28 involved a jail, and 10 were at schools.
