Possible road rage shooting reported near Fort Worth's Southwest High School, police say

The incident was reported shortly before noon Tuesday at Southwest High School.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police said they were investigating a possible road rage shooting near Southwest High School on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they had "no reason to believe" the incident involved the school or students, and the school was not placed on lockdown.

The incident started when a person in a vehicle reportedly fired shots at another car, injuring two people who then drove to an urgent care for treatment, a Fort Worth police official told WFAA at the scene. The victims' conditions were not yet known.

By 1 p.m., officials said a suspect was in custody. According to jail records the suspect is identified as Christian Ingram.

Police were initially called to the area around 11:50 a.m.

Officers could be seen near Altamesa Boulevard and Welch Avenue, on the southwest side of the high school.

WFAA crews were at the scene of the incident and saw several police vehicles and officers talking to witnesses on Welch, which was blocked off near the school. Some students were seen leaving the school, but they weren't near the area where police were investigating.

One student told WFAA that her mother is always worried about their safety.

"She's very, very protective over me, my sister, all the family was there. She'll come up here in an instant. I want to be able to still go to school, and feel safe," said Ja'nayviea Bowman.

Southwest school officials in a statement said the school was placed on "secure" status when the incident happened but the campus was later determined to not be at risk. The officials said no Southwest students or staff were involved in the incident.

"We thank our students and staff for following the secure status protocol thoroughly and helping us keep everyone safe," officials said in the statement.
