GRAPEVINE, Texas — A Grapevine man was arrested on an animal cruelty charge after police say they found an unresponsive dog behind the dumpster of a Super 8 hotel off State Highway 114.

Grapevine Animal Services responded to an animal complaint at the hotel on Jan. 26 and officials say the unresponsive dog was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital where it was declared dead.

Grapevine Animal Services examined the dog and officials say it was severely emaciated with an open wound on its head and multiple rashes or abrasions on its body.

Findings determined the dog died of starvation, police say.

Police say surveillance video from the hotel showed a man, later identified as Vanadus Green, 36, pulling the dog through the hotel hallway and back parking lot, police say.

Green was arrested on a felony cruelty to a non-livestock animal charge Feb. 28, according to police.
