'They were our babies' | 2 teen boys shot and killed in Dallas identified, mother speaks out

"Even today it’s surreal, it doesn't feel real…that my baby’s not coming home," the mother of one of the victims said, crying.

DALLAS — Two teenagers were found dead in Dallas with gunshot wounds Friday night, police say.

The Dallas Police Department said officers responded at about 9:20 p.m. Friday to the 3800 block of Dixon Avenue. When officers got to the scene, they found 18-year-old Camren Stacy on the ground outside of a vehicle, and 18-year-old Kamari Smith-Capps in the driver’s seat. Both men had been shot and died at the scene, DPD said.

"Even today it’s surreal, it doesn't feel real…that my baby’s not coming home," Kamari's mother, who asked WFAA not to identify her, said crying in an interview Tuesday.

Kamari's mother said he was a great student, a former homecoming king just two months away from high school graduation. She said he was a great son who often bought her flowers.

"It’s taking everything I got to stand here and not fall down into a ball…because he was, they were our babies," she cried.

Through heavy tears, she told WFAA Kamari and Camren were best friends since freshman year at Berkner High School in Richardson. But they were killed Friday at the UncleLee Market on Dixon Avenue in Dallas. Police believe both boys were shot inside a car in the parking lot.

"You took their life," Kamari's mom said of the shooter or shooters. "It wasn’t, it wasn’t an accident. You took it!"

Investigators say they're still looking for suspects who ran from the scene but haven't specified how many. Kamari's mother told WFAA she doesn’t know why the boys were at the market and can’t think of who would want to hurt them or why.

"If you know something, please say something…please say something…please get justice for Kamari and Cameron."

A single mother, she said she has no other kids.

"We learned on each other; he was my best friend," she said. "He was my son, but he was also my best friend. He was all I had… and now he’s gone and it’s just me."
