Texas ranch listed for sale, mountain and winery included

The 1,000-acre Blue Mountain Ranch has been listed for $7.75 million, according to the Dallas-based brokerage group Icon Global.

FORT DAVIS, Texas — There are wide open spaces in Texas. Then there's Jeff Davis County, population 1,996, about 500 miles southwest of Dallas.

Now a slice of that vast openness is up for sale, a mountain and winery included.

The 1,000-acre Blue Mountain Ranch has been listed for $7.75 million, according to the Dallas-based brokerage group Icon Global.

The property includes the ranch's namesake, Blue Mountain, and the Blue Mountain Vineyard. The ranch, which sits at an elevation of around 5,600 feet in the Davis Mountains, is located about 10 minutes from Fort Davis, which holds the distinction as the highest elevation town in Texas.

The area near the ranch also includes the Davis Mountains State Park, and Marfa is about 25 minutes to the south.

Dan and Maura Sharp currently own the property and operate the Sharp Family Vineyards. The Sharps took over the property in 2018, but the winery goes back to the 1970s. The vineyard's website described the ranch as having "rocky volcanic soil," which is "unique to Texas and rare among all the grape growing regions of the world."

"You come out here and you bring legitimate winemakers from the other parts of the world, and put them out here and see all this, they love it," Dan Sharp said in a video produced by Icon Global. "And they actually respect it."

Icon touted a wide range of wildlife on the land as well, including quail, mule deer, whitetail, aoudad, elk, pronghorn, and black bear.

"One of the appealing features about this ranch is it has something available for just about anyone," Sharp said.
