Flights between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Tulum start March 28

Fort Worth-based American Airlines will begin offering service to Tulum from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Thursday.

DALLAS — It will soon be easier to travel straight to Tulum, Mexico from Dallas-Fort Worth.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines will begin offering service to Tulum from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday. Delta Airlines will also begin offering service to Tulum on Thursday, followed by United Airlines on March 31.

The routes connect Tulum to Dallas-Fort Worth and other major hubs like Houston, Atlanta, Miami, and more.

Travelers previously had to fly to Cancun and then drive to get to Tulum. Last year, the majority of U.S. tourists to Mexico arrived through the airports of Cancun and Los Cabos.

While many airlines are jumping at the chance to fly to Tulum, the airport there is still a work in progress.

The Tulum Airport recently opened, but construction remains ongoing, and limited ground transportation remains a concern for Mexican officials, according to a December statement.

Talks with the airport and government officials about lowering the ground transportation tax were also reportedly still underway as of mid-March, according to the Washington Post. The Post also reports the Tulum Airport is expected to improve access to the popular Mayan Riviera once the kinks are worked out, though.
