Planning to go into downtown Dallas during the eclipse? Travelers should expect "rolling" highway exit closures, police say

Police say exits off major highways into downtown Dallas are expected to be impacted from 1-2 p.m. Monday, but exits out of downtown will remain open.

DALLAS — Are you planning to head into downtown Dallas on Monday to watch the total solar eclipse? Dallas police are warning travelers to expect “rolling” road closures on major highways from 1 to 2 p.m.

Police say highway exits into downtown are expected to be impacted by the “rolling closures,” but drivers leaving downtown are not expected to be affected as exits out of downtown will remain open.

The closures will encircle downtown Dallas and impact parts of I-35E, I-30, I-345, and Woodall Rogers Freeway, including where it connects with U.S. 75, according to a map Dallas police shared.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) warns major corridors in the path of totality, including I-35, I-45, I-10, U.S. 87, U.S. 90, U.S. 281, U.S. 290, and more, could experience traffic congestion with up to four times the amount of traffic of normal rush hours in some areas during the eclipse.

The moon is expected to begin covering the sun in Dallas at 12:23 p.m., with total coverage at 1:40 p.m., ending about four minutes later.
