DALLAS — Walmart is planning to begin construction on three new Supercenters in North Texas, the corporation confirmed.
It’s part of the company’s plans, announced in January, to build or convert more than 150 stores nationwide over the next five years. The North Texas stores will be built in Frisco, Melissa, and Celina. Construction is expected to begin this spring and summer. Those stores will be the first Walmart stores for Celina and Melissa.
Planning documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicate the new Frisco store will be built at 16600 FM 23, with construction planned to begin June 11.

Walmart CEO John Furner announced the plan to build and continue to remodel existing stores in January.
“In the next five years, Walmart is planning to build or convert more than 150 stores, while simultaneously continuing our program to remodel existing stores. These efforts represent millions of dollars in capital investment of labor, supplies, and tax revenue, which benefit their respective communities,” Furner wrote.
The new Walmart stores will have new layouts, an expanded product selection, and technology upgrades, the company says.
