Wife fatally shot ex-husband in Plano in 'domestic violence situation,' police say

Merridith Simone Nunley was found and taken into custody without incident in the area of W. Park Boulevard and Alma Drive, police say.

PLANO, Texas — A woman allegedly shot and killed her ex-husband in Plano Friday evening, police say.

Police say they responded to a call from a man who said he’d been shot in the 2300 block of Monticello Circle shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday. The suspect, 38-year-old Merridith Simone Nunley, was arrested and charged with murder Saturday, police said.

When they arrived, they found a man, identified as David Gene Nunley, 55, with a gunshot wound to the upper body and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.

“Police dispatch also began to receive additional calls from friends of the family advising that the wife of the victim had called them advising she shot her husband,” police said in a statement.

Officers found the woman in the area of W. Park Boulevard and Alma Drive and took her into custody without incident, police say.

“This appears to be a domestic violence situation between a husband and wife,” police said. “They do have children, however, none were present at the residence or with the suspect. It has been reported that they were with other family members prior to this incident. There are no further suspects being sought and no danger to the public.”

The names of the people involved are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
