3 hospitalized after explosion in Denton County, officials say

The explosion happened a little after noon on Saturday.

PILOT POINT, Texas — Three men were taken to area hospitals after crews responded to a building explosion in Denton County, officials say.

The explosion happened a little after noon on Saturday in the 8200 block area of FM 455 E in Pilot Point.

Three men in their mid-40s were subsequently taken to area hospitals via ambulance, Denton County Fire Marshal Brad Sebastian told WFAA. One of the three was taken to a hospital in Plano, and two were initially taken to Medical City Denton but were transferred to Plano, too, Sebastian said.

Two of the three men are listed as critical and the other is in stable condition. All three are recovering at the Medical City Plano Burn Unit.

Sebastian says the Railroad Commission was requested to assist with the investigation, though, because of the home being fueled by propane. On Monday, the Denton County Fire Marshal's Office confirmed the "explosion was directly related to the accumulation of propane inside the home."

"The ignition source or determination to the cause has not been determined at this time," Sebastian added.

Pilot Point Fire, Denton County Sheriff's Office, and Denton County’s Fire Marshall responded to the scene.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
