Dallas Stars wives, girlfriends bring back playoff tradition with themed jackets

Since at least 2017, the wives and girlfriends of NHL players have worn themed jackets throughout the playoffs.

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars WAGs (wives and girlfriends) are at it again with another fashionable playoff jacket.

WFAA profiled the tradition last season when the ladies rocked a sick LF bomber jacket.

"Everyone looks forward to when we get the green light to start talking about playoff jackets," defenseman Joel Hanley's wife, Kate, told WFAA last year. "Every year, it's been getting bigger and bigger, which is so cool."

For the 2024 playoff run, the Stars WAGSs partnered with TKO Paintings for their Victory Green denim jackets.

Each denim jacket was hand painted with their players' number and "Dallas Stars" on the back, and "Texas Hockey" and the player's name on the front. Custom-made pieces for the significant others of players have become more and more common on social media throughout professional sports.

In the NFL, the wife of 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Kristin Juszczyk, went viral this past season when Taylor Swift was seen wearing a Travis Kelce-inspired jacket designed by her.

For the NHL, the tradition is believed to have started in 2017 when the WAGs of the Washington Capitals started wearing matching denim jackets with players' names on the back of them during the playoffs. Ever since 2017, the playoff jacket tradition has grown and popularized, too. On TikTok, users often rank and rate the best ones of the postseason.

The Dallas Stars kick off their Stanley Cup Playoff run against the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round.
