University Of Sociology / September 24, 2020

Warm greetings to you from the Sociology department at McGill University. We hope that you will find this website interesting and informative. The sociology department at McGill has a distinguished history in the profession, in both Canada and internationally. We think of ourselves as a community, where undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and administrative staff, work together in a supportive and nurturing environment. We take pride both in the training and mentoring we offer to our undergraduate and graduate students, and in the research of our faculty and students. Our undergraduate students have gone on to successful applications to a variety of major graduate programs. Our graduate students have found work as academics in universities and colleges throughout North America and indeed around the world, in governments, NGOs, and corporations. Our department has teaching and research interests which are broadly classified into three areas: comparative political sociology and development, diversity and inequalities, and population and health. Our work in these areas addresses relevant social issues, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and has engaged the attention of fellow academics, policy- makers, and indeed the wider public. So again, welcome to our community. Please feel free to contact our administrators, as well as individual professors, to explore your interests further.
